Moray tourism survey results
A few weeks ago we’ve sent out a Speyside and Moray Coast survey and thanks to all who took the time to give us very valuable information. We’ve uploaded the results to the downloads section of this blog where you can view and download it.
Some highlights:
- Out of 150 accommodation providers 41 (27%) took part in the survey
- Only 2(!) hotels out of 34 took part in the survey (will be addressed)
- 25 out of 72 B&B’s took part in the survey
- 51% reported a better year then last year whilst 22% experienced the same level of business then last year
- Whisky, Walking, Castles and Coast came out as main attraction, followed closely by Wildlife and Golf
- Moray and Speyside most used in promoting the area
- 26 businesses (65%) have no or a paper database
On the question of do you need help with achieving your goals we got some interesting replies:
- need as much up-to date, preferably, electronic info on Moray as possible. – Greater Speyside, Spotlight on Moray
- Help with marketing would be appreciated.
- A list of events in Moray would be a great help
- Marketing of Business (mentioned a few times)
- How to be even more present on the web.
- more work advertising Moray independantly from either Grampian or Highlands, Moray is a holiday destination in its own right.
- finding contractor to do work, no one gets back with quotes!!

Moray officials have been talking about what attractions we have to offer visitors for more than 2 years but it still has’nt started to promote it yet.

When is Moray going to have a decent tourism website up and running to attract more tourists to the area, in time for summer 2010 ?

Hi Forresweb,
Yes, time for talking is over, it’s time for action! and yes, a web site to promote Moray is high on the agenda.
Thanks for the feedback!

Thank goodness, in this day and age a decent tourism website is vital for the area and it’s loooong overdue
So is this new Moray website going to be free for all tourism related businesses to get listed or is it going to be really clicky like visitscotland.com where people have to pay loads of money to get any type of mention in it ?
Is this a public or private venture to make money ?
ps) I noticed you did’nt follow my suggestion and buy Moray.com from that guy I mentioned a few months back….looks like he’s now put the price up alot since we last spoke. Pity you did’nt jump on that one when you had the chance, one word generic type in domains are ALOT better than brandable domains unless you have large amounts of money to spend constantly promoting it.

Hi Forresweb,
I can’t tell you anything about the set up of the new Moray Tourism web site, not that I don’t want to but simply that it hasn’t been discussed yet.
The Moray DMO is a combination of private and public sector and has to make money to be self sustainable. Good thing is that any money made will go directly to local tourism development.
ps, I didn’t follow your suggestion up as at the moment we don’t have a budget to buy domain names for a few thousand.
VisitMoray.com is re-directed to Forresweb which is fine as you do a great job promoting the local area. Thanks!
